My wedding photography journey
Three years ago, I would not have believed you if you told me I’d be a wedding photographer right now. I had no idea how to even begin breaking into the wedding photography industry – it seemed scary! So much to know, so much responsibility, I didn’t know if I was cut out for it. But then my curiosity got the better of me. I got lucky – I managed to arrange to assist another photographer at one of their weddings. Looking back now, I know it was the day that everything changed. I instantly knew that this was what I wanted to do, and so my journey in wedding photography began.
With a hell of a lot of hard work and determination, I booked 20 weddings during my first real wedding season, with another 30 booked for the current season, and counting. I’m finally quitting my full time job and my next year’s diary is half full already. It can be done – but you’ve got to be willing to put the hard work in. I spent many a late night, editing sessions, improving my skills, and building social media engagement. It wasn’t easy, and I’m sure there will be more bumps in the road, just as there are with any profession you choose to follow, but I’m so happy that I persisted and now I get to share that journey with you too.
